Chaete (pronounced keet) Treat™ is a bacterioplankton / polychaete blended diet formulated at EcoAquatics™ originally for use in-house for the purpose of enriching our rotifers which in turn are being fed to our mysids. The idea was to offer a more balanced diet for our cultured mysids and to try and enhance our growth and reproduction rates while continuing to culture a nutritional, healthy organism. Prior to Chaete Treat™ we would feed a combination of newly hatched artemia nauplii and phytoplankton-enriched rotifers to our mysids. While this has proven to have been a good diet over the years, we were looking for more and added Chaete Treat™ enriched rotifers to our feeding protocol. Now we are pleased to be able to offer our Chaete Treat™ diets to others and we hope you enjoy our products.
The base product in Chaete Treat™ is 100% aquacultured polychaetes, an organism in itself that has outstanding nutritional properties, but it is the critical process of how this product is produced and the other components of the blend that make it an excellent diet. All the ingredients are either 100% aquacultured organisms or ingredients approved by the FDA for animal and/or human consumption. Even though some of you may be tempted, Chaete Treat™ is NOT for human consumption.
Though originally formulated for the purpose of enriching rotifers, this diet is excellent for feeding copepods, all types of corals and gorgonians, clams and scallops, other filter-feeders, invertebrates and reef fish. In fact at the same time this diet is feeding your corals and invertebrates, it is also supporting other micro-fauna that call your aquarium home and at some point they will also become a source of food. So please give Chaete Treat™ a try by adding it to your reef tank feeding regiment today.
Chaete Treat™ is available in 3 formulas:
Chaete Treat "Formula 53"™ is a bacterioplankton / polychaete diet with particles no larger then 53 microns and is the diet we use for enriching rotifers and copepods. This formula is perfect for use in feeding SPS and soft corals, gorgonians, clams, scallops and other filter-feeders that primarily rely on small particulate. It is also perfect for use as an enrichment of live foods such as rotifers, artemia, copepods, etc. Many hard to feed filter-feeders such as feather stars and basket stars may also benefit from this diet as it mimics the natural plankton it would feed on in the wild.
Chaete Treat "Original Formula"™ is also a bacterioplankton / polychaete diet but contains more particulate matter up to 1500 microns. Not recommended for small filter feeders such as rotifers, it'll give your reef tank a boost of nutrition from the particles of polychaetes. This formula is an exceptional choice for all corals, but may really benefit those LPS and non-photosynthetic corals, it is also a great diet for clams, scallops, filter-feeders, and will support invertebrates as well as small reef fish. Chaete Treat "Maintain"™ is a bacterioplankton diet, nutritional yet cost friendly, does not contain polychaetes, designed specifically for maintaining live cultures of rotifers, copepods, growing out artemia nauplii, daphnia, etc. Use this diet for your daily feedings, then enrich using our "Formula 53"™.
While we don't claim Chaete Treat™ is a complete diet, can't believe that any diet can lay claim to this based on what's available in the wild, it is a well balanced diet containing beneficial amounts of protein, fatty acids, amino acids, trace elements and vitamins. The ingredients are polychaetes, bacteria and RO/DI water, but remember, Chaete Treat ™ is not just a blended product, it is the proprietary process by which this formula is produced that brings out the benefits of the ingredients.
